Sirri Sakik is a Turkish politician and former military officer. He was born on October 15, 1938, in the province of Sivas, Turkey. Sakik graduated from the Turkish Military Academy in 1960 and served in the Turkish Armed Forces for many years.
In 1990, Sakik retired from the military and became a member of parliament for the True Path Party (DYP). He was later appointed as the Minister of National Defense under the coalition government led by Tansu Ciller in 1995.
During his time as the Minister of National Defense, Sakik was embroiled in controversy after it was revealed that he had ordered the military to bomb Kurdish villages in southeastern Turkey. The incident, which became known as the Susurluk scandal, led to widespread protests and demands for Sakik's resignation.
In 1998, Sakik was arrested and charged with membership in a terrorist organization that was involved in the Susurluk scandal. He was later acquitted of the charges in 2004 due to lack of evidence.
After leaving politics, Sakik became a businessman and opened a hotel in Istanbul. He passed away on October 9, 2019, at the age of 81.
